Memodernisasi Pendidikan Kewirausahaan Vokasi: Problme Based Learning (PBL) Berbasis Komunitas Kopi Lokal di SMK Raudlatul Ulum Suren

Abstract

A local coffee community-based problem-solving (PBL) approach offers a contextual vocational learning approach by placing students at the center of learning through solving real-life problems within the coffee value chain around the school. This approach is considered potential for strengthening students' entrepreneurial competencies while simultaneously bridging the relationship between the school and local businesses. This study employed a qualitative classroom action study design involving PBL interventions in vocational high school entrepreneurship courses, participant observation, interviews with teachers and community partners, and documentation of student products and activities. Data analysis was conducted thematically to evaluate changes in engagement, entrepreneurial competencies, and vocational outcomes after implementation. Results indicate increased student engagement, the emergence of value-added coffee product prototypes, and increased participation in entrepreneurial activities and presentation-negotiation skills with partners. Collaborative learning, community engagement, and authentic assessment have been shown to foster the development of opportunity identification, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and independence. However, the study identified significant obstacles, including limited formal time, varying community support, teacher training needs, and logistical/funding constraints, all of which hinder sustainability. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of the PBL model with Community-Based Learning specifically for the local coffee value chain in the context of vocational high schools (SMK). This demonstrates evidence of real-life vocational practices while highlighting implementation gaps—namely the need for program design, facilitator capacity, and a more stable partnership scheme for replication and sustainability.
