Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) on the tendency toward toxic relationships among 10th-grade students at SMKN 1 Purwosari. The study employs a quantitative approach using a simple linear regression method. The research subjects were 10th-grade students at SMKN 1 Purwosari, selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data collection was conducted using the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) scale and a toxic relationship tendency scale based on the Likert model, followed by statistical analysis. The results indicate that Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) does not have a significant influence on the tendency toward toxic relationships among 10th-grade students at SMKN 1 Purwosari. This suggests that the students' level of FOMO does not directly determine the emergence of tendencies toward unhealthy relationships. Students with a tendency toward FOMO do not necessarily exhibit toxic relationship behaviors—such as dominance, emotional neglect, emotional manipulation, and excessive jealousy. Conversely, the tendency toward toxic relationships may be influenced by various factors other than FOMO. Consequently, the alternative hypothesis was rejected, and the null hypothesis was accepted. This study demonstrates that FOMO is not a primary factor influencing the tendency toward toxic relationships among 10th-grade students at SMKN 1 Purwosari.
